Florida Among States Not Yet to Recognize Juneteenth
In a significant move towards recognizing and honoring the historical significance of Juneteenth, more than half of the states in the United States are expected to observe the holiday as an official public holiday in 2023. However, Florida remains among the two dozen states that have not yet officially recognized Juneteenth as a federal holiday.

Currently, Florida recognizes 21 legal holidays, including those that are paid state and federal holidays. Juneteenth is not currently included in this list.

Juneteenth, which commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States, will be observed on June 19, 2023.
Significance and Federal Recognition
Juneteenth was officially recognized as a federal holiday in the United States on June 17, 2021, when President Biden signed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act into law.
